-- Neuroscientists develop probe to delve deeper into brain function
A team of neuroscientists and electrical engineers from Germany and Switzerland have developed a highly sensitive brain implant that could render contemporary brain scans obsolete.
But you’ll need to be OK with ultra-fine needles penetrating your skull.
Each needle is coupled with chip that captures nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data from tiny volumes of brain oxygen.
Engineers say the device reduces levels of electromagnetic interference, enabling neuroscientists to gather precise data from minuscule areas of the brain to better understand specific activity and functionalities.
The innovation paves the way for quantitative mapping techniques of neuronal activity and bioenergetic processes in brain cells.
Now, hold still while the needles go in.
