Anthocyanidins. There you have it. Anthocyanidins are exceptional antioxidants found in red/purple fruits and vegetables (let’s call this lot ‘super’ too).
Anthocyanidins support blood vessel integrity, helping to reduce cardiovascular disease. A slew of research shows both heart and brain-health benefits from eating blueberries.
One study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, concluded that eating a cup of blueberries a day decreases risk of heart disease by up to 15%, even among those already at risk.
Blueberries are also a good source of vitamin C, which helps protect cells against damage and aids in the absorption of iron. They also contain a decent amount of soluble fibre, which slows down the rate sugar absorption into the bloodstream.
