Here’s something to cheer up the 84 million American adults (one in three) who have prediabetes (though 90 percent of prediabetics don’t know they have it).
French dairy company Ingredia has released a new dairy-based bioactive ingredient that reduces the higher than normal blood glucose levels of people who are prediabetic. Taken before a meal, the milk protein can significantly reduce postprandial (post-meal) blood sugar levels.
Called Pep2Dia, the new ingredient is a patented milk protein hydrolysate with an active dipeptide AP (two amino acids joined together), which inhibits alpha-glucosidase (a digestive enzyme that hydrolyses polysaccharides into glucose), helping to regulate blood sugar levels.
The product is available in powder form and used in numerous applications, such as dietary supplements, and in manufactured foods and beverages.
Sprinkle it on your ice cream.
