WEIGHT LOSS: Whole grains fight belly fat

Who doesn’t want to lose a few pounds of belly fat? Tuck in to those oats, people – and while you’re at don’t forget brown rice and whole-wheat bread and pasta.
A recent study from Japan suggests a diet rich in whole grains may help battle the bulge. Study participants who ate whole grain bread rather than white bread melted 4 cm2 of visceral fat from their curves in just 12 weeks. What’s more, whole-grain diets are known to reduce C-reactive protein (CRP), an indicator of inflammation in the body linked to heart disease.
